ALL I WANT THIS HOLIDAY SEASON IS…

I am writing this on December 11th for a December 15th publication date and I’m already sick of that Mariah Carey Christmas song, so I apologize for my title. But as the leader of our small but growing Tribe of Up, I am curious what my fellow tribesmen and women are looking for this holiday season. Like I did a few weeks ago with my “What I Am Thankful For” article, I thought I would share a couple things I am hoping for, in the hopes to spark your own lists. Please consider this a challenge. Take 5 minutes and come up with 5 things you are looking for this holiday season. Push yourself to really come up with 5 meaningful things. No more, no less. And while these are in no particular order of importance or significance, here we go:
- In Dan Campbell I trust. All I want this holiday season is for the Lions to make the playoffs. The people of this wonderful region deserve it.
- Our family dog to make it through one more holiday. We rescued her when she was 6. She is 12 now and on her last legs. She has a happy spirit, but her body is wearing out. We did our best to make the second half of her life far better than her abused first half. All I want this holiday season is for her to be with us for 1 more Christmas morning.
- To remember how exhausted I was in 2019 and how one of the silver linings of 2020 and 2021 was how “it” forced us to slow down. I feel things speeding up again and all I want this holiday season is to remember we don’t have to constantly ‘redline’ life to get where we are going. Coasting sometimes will still get us where we are going.
- Going along with number 3, all I want this holiday season is a bag full of dimmer switches. I am constantly reminding myself that I don’t need to be a 1 or a 10 on something. I don’t need to be ‘on’ or ‘off.’ Sometimes, being a 6 is bright enough. I need more dimmer switches in my life. Pinging off the extremes isn’t healthy for anyone. So here, have a dimmer switch instead of just an ‘on/off’ switch!
- The last thing I want this holiday season is about 3 inches of snow to wake up to on the front lawn Christmas morning that for some miraculous reason melted when it hit every road, sidewalk and parking lot, so as to not affect driving conditions.
I tried to come up with 1 goofy wish (#5), 1 soulful wish (#2…ok…#1 too!) and two wishes I can control. #3 and #4 I have complete control over. As fellow Tribe of Up members, I challenge all of you to come up with at least one holiday wish that will give you a moment of pause. A wish that will help you reflect and make daily life a just a little better. Let me know how I can help!
